Fredi’s story is one of incredible resilience. He was born at a dump site near Skopje, where a remarkable elderly lady has spent decades feeding and caring for abandoned animals.
Last autumn, a litter of puppies was born at one of the dump sites. Soon after, parvovirus swept through them. With very limited means, this dedicated lady treated the puppies herself. Some survived. Many didn’t. Fredi was one of the fighters. Then tragedy struck. After one of her feeding rounds, as she drove away, she had no idea little Fredi had curled up beneath the wheel of her car.
The accident was every rescuer’s worst nightmare. She rushed him straight to the vet, where they weren’t sure he would survive. For weeks he was critically ill, barely hanging on. The injuries to his head left him unable to walk, blind, and completely uncoordinated. At first, even eating and drinking were a struggle. But neither Fredi nor his rescuer gave up. Despite caring for countless other stray animals every single day, she visited him faithfully, helping him through his recovery.
Little by little, he began to improve. Today, Fredi can walk again. Although he has permanently lost his sight and still has some neurological coordination issues, he has adapted beautifully. Most importantly, he hasn’t lost his gentle spirit.
At just around 11 months old, Fredi is a sweet, affectionate boy who deserves so much more than the life he was born into. His rescuer could never bring herself to return him to the dump once he had fought so hard to survive. However the financial strain of boarding kennels cannot be sustained.
Now, Fredi is searching for the one thing he has never had: a forever home.
He will need a very experienced adopter who understands the needs of a blind dog and is willing to give him the time, patience and consistency he deserves.
A calm, rural, adult only home with a secure garden would be ideal, where he can safely learn his surroundings and enjoy life without the stress of busy environments. Fredi doesn’t know that he’s different. He simply wants to feel safe, loved, and included.
He can live alone or with other dogs. He is ok with cats.
After everything this extraordinary little survivor has overcome, we believe his happiest chapter is still waiting to be written. Could you be the person to give Fredi the second chance he’s fought so hard for?
