Belka is one of those dogs who quietly steals your heart. Gentle, sweet and incredibly kind, she is the sort of girl who never asks for much.

When she feels safe, her playful and happy personality begins to shine, but around new people she is naturally shy. Rather than approaching with confidence, she’ll often lower her head, silently hoping that no one will hurt her. Sadly, we understand why.

Belka was the only survivor after a mass poisoning of street dogs in her neighbourhood. She was taken to the public shelter, while all of the dogs she had known disappeared. We can only imagine the fear and loss she experienced before she was finally safe.

Through it all, Belka has remained nothing but gentle.

One thing she does need is the comfort of another dog. Having lost her original canine family, she finds confidence and reassurance in the company of other dogs.

When Belka’s time at the public shelter came to an end and she faced being returned to the streets, we couldn’t let that happen. We brought her into boarding, giving her the chance to find the loving homes she deserve.

Belka is looking for a calm, patient home where she won’t be rushed. She would thrive with another friendly, confident dog who can help her continue building trust and show her that the world isn’t such a scary place.

She could happily live with respectful, dog-savvy older children who understand that she needs time to come out of her shell. She has not yet been assessed with cats.

Belka has survived more than any dog should have to.

Now all she needs is someone willing to let her move at her own pace, earn her trust, and discover just how much love she has to give. Could you be the person to show Belka that home is a place where she will always be safe?
